This announcement is intended for all Pixelbook/ChromeOS users, as the default location policy for your downloaded files has changed.
Why the change? We are currently working on implementing a new password policy for our users, and ChromeOS complicates password changes.
- All of your local data is encrypted via your current password, and if this changes (and someone forgets their last password), there is no way to physically recover this data
With this change, your downloads will be synced to our cloud storage with Google, which prevents any scenarios in which this data is lost. For instructions on how to best optimize this setup, please follow the instructions depicted in the document linked below.
